Mukasey Rejects Prosecution of DOJ Hiring Practices

In a surprise move, Attorney General Michael Mukasey said that he would refuse to criminally prosecute any former Justice Dept. employees who used political litmus tests while hiring

Who could be surprised by such a decision?  Mukasey himself was hired after a political litmus test determined that he was a ‘yes man’ to Bush.  A crony.  A stooge.

Every time Mukasey has been asked to investigate or prosecute any Republican, he has rejected the notion.  I thought Alberto Gonzalez was bad.  (Okay, he was bad.)

“Where there is enough evidence to charge someone with a crime, we vigorously prosecute.  But not every wrong, or even every violation of the law, is a crime,” Mukasey said.

No, only vigorously prosecute the Democrats.  Right Mr. AG?

Candidates were rejected if the hiring official determined candidates possessed possible liberal backgrounds.

Mukasey attempts to straighten me out here:

“That does not mean, as some people have suggested, that those officials who were found by the joint reports to have committed misconduct have suffered no consequences.  Far from it. The officials most directly implicated in the misconduct left the Department to the accompaniment of substantial negative publicity.”

Negative publicity?  Like Monica Goodling?  Break the law and get some negative publicity.

None are thrown in jail, disbarred or even face trial.  Not even a proverbial slap on the wrist.  No, let’s just give them some negative publicity.
