Fourth Amendment 1791 – 2008

Article IV states:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

The Fourth Amendment was ratified as part of the Bill of Rights on December 15, 1791

Today the House passed a ‘compromise’ to the FISA bill which continues the governments’ warrantless surveillance program and essentially gives the Telecom companies immunity. This is a huge victory for President Bush. The vote passed 293 – 129 and is expected to easily pass the Senate.

Dennis Kucinich brilliantly states in 1 minute from the House floor exactly why this bill is harmful and how it invalidates the Fourth Amendment.
