How bad were Wesley Clark’s comments, really?

General Wesley ClarkWesley Clark said the following:

“Well, I don’t think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president.”

The quote was taken completely out of context but let’s look at these words at face value.

Fact: John McCain is a war hero

Fact: John McCain served this country honorably and nobly.

Fact: John McCain was shot down during the Viet Nam War.

Fact: John McCain was a POW who was abused while held as a prisoner.

So taking General Clark’s comments at face value: Does getting shot down qualify one to be president?

The answer is a resounding – NO!

Obviously, the general could have said this with more tact.

Clark’s surrounding comments didn’t minimize McCain’s service. This just questions whether or not his service qualifies McCain to serve as Commander in Chief.

It will be an interesting debate over the next days and weeks as we compare the Republican candidate who served in the war and was a POW with the Democratic candidate who has not served.Grover Norquist

And just one aside: Why haven’t we had any outrage from the Grover Norquist comments: Barack Obama is ‘John Kerry with a tan’

John McCain Promises 4 Years of Dull

John McCain is dull, dull, dull.

If I have to watch this man for the next 4 years, I fear that I and the rest of the world may slide into a coma.

How does one liven up dull? Last month, McCain gave a speech standing in front of a green sign. Stephen Colbert, host of the Colbert Report, offered up a challenge to viewers to ‘liven up McCain’ in his second Green Screen Challenge.

There have been many great entries, but the way I see it, the best way to liven up dull is to infuse the comatose speaker with Elvis. He’s still dull, but at least he’s watchable.

New McCain ad – WTF!?!

Have you seen the new John McCain ad? I’ve watched this thing repeatedly and I just don’t get it.

Barack Obama is Dr. No.

Why? Because he is pointing out that McCain’s ideas are garbage?

Offshore drilling would not lower gas prices today. - Senator Obama

That is true. Offshore drilling would take about 20 years for the drilling to provide any relief. By then, it will be too late.

I think John McCain’s proposal for a three month tax holiday is a bad idea.” – Obama

Every expert agreed that the tax holiday was a gimmick that would save the consumer a whopping $27 for the entire summer. (I’d save about $32).

In this campaign, John McCain is offering the same old gimmicks.” – Obama

Obama was referring to that ridiculous $300 million giveaway. Another gimmick that won’t give any return for years.

I start off with the premise that nuclear energy is not optimal. I am not a nuclear energy proponent.” – Obama

The announcer is implying in the above statement, that Obama is against ‘Clean, Safe, Nuclear Energy’

Fact Check found the following quote from Obama:

Dec. 30, 2007: “There is no perfect energy source. Everything has some problems right now. We haven’t found it yet. Now I trust in our ingenuity. … I have not ruled out nuclear as part of that [$150 billion proposed energy research] package, but only so far as it is clean and safe.”

This could be the lamest ad I’ve seen from a presidential candidate.

Why didn’t McCain call him Dr. Nobama? At least that would have been a step up.

Hey, John. And if you’re trying to appeal to the younger crowd – do you think you should be spoofing a film from 1962? This film was released when Obama was 1 year old.

If this is all you’ve got, you’re in some serious trouble.

The Offshore Oil Drilling Scam

We are being led to believe that by expanding offshore drilling we will get enough oil to eliminate our dependency on foreign oil.  They tell us that it will also lower the cost we pay at the pump.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

GOP logoIn the last week, Bush instructed the McCain gang to change their longstanding positions to support offshore drilling.  In a flash, Republican presumptive nominee John McCain, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Governor Charlie Crist (R-FL), Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) and the rest of the party loyalists flip-flopped and lined up behind Bush.  Martinez, as you recall, only days before had called out VP Dick Cheney for his lie that China with Cuba’s help was already drilling 60 miles off of the coast of Florida.

The Spin

The Republicans are spinning this issue to a very simplistic, but inaccurate supply – demand point of view.  Well, what you do is you have a supply-demand problem.  The more domestic supply, the better we are off as a nation,” said Senator Graham on Sunday’s Meet the Press.  “I think it gets you some immediate relief,” he continued.

More spin from Senator Graham:  Cuba is doing a deal with China, potentially, to drill off our shores. So yes, now is the time at $4 a gallon, $135 a barrel oil, to find more oil and gas here at home.”  Notice how Graham has softened the ‘Cuba is drilling 60 miles off our shores’ comments from the VP to ‘potentially’.  Graham also throws the high prices at us because that is what will get the people’s support.  He never addresses the root cause of the higher prices.

One of the buzzwords surrounding this is ‘drilling’.  They want the Saudi’s to drill more.  They want us to drill offshore.  The fact is, we want the Saudi’s to “pump more of what they’re drilling.  They’re not pumping what they could,” said Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) also on Meet the Press.  Yes, it’s a game of semantics but as we’ve learned, politicians are extremely careful of their word choice.  In this case, drilling and pumping mean two different things.

Offshore drilling facts

Oil Rig in Gulf of MexicoFirst of all, we must address that there isn’t a ‘federal ban’ on offshore oil drilling.  There are roughly 68 million acres leased (40 million offshore).  Anyone remember the videos of the oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico as Hurricanes Katrina and Rita made their way towards Texas and Louisiana?  No, there is a moratorium on leasing the reaming 600 million or so acres to the oil companies.

Currently, only 10.2 million acres of the 40 million available are actually in operation, pumping oil out of the ground.  That begs the question:  Why aren’t they pumping from the other 75%?

Oil companies have 39 million acres under lease for drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, but they’re drilling on less than 8 million acres of that,” said Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL).

Why are they not pursuing what’s estimated to be a total of 70–54 billion barrels of oil at their disposal right now if they pump?”  Biden is asking a key question.  Why are the oil companies not pumping anywhere near capacity?

Biden continues, “It’s because they want to get [the remaining 600 million offshore acres] in before George Bush leaves the presidency.  It’s because they’re not pumping the oil to keep the price up.  They are not even drilling.  So here you have 30 million leased acres they have right now that possesses 79 percent of all the offshore, and they’re not drilling.”

“And it would take 10 years for it to come online,” concluded Biden.  According to the Department of Energy, lifting the moratorium  would not have a significant impact on domestic crude oil and natural gas prices before 2030.”

Hedge funds facts

Many expert economists have already reported that the current price of crude oil that we see today has no direct relation to supply and demand, as has the US Senate.  In fact, as F. William Engdahl stated in an editorial (sourced below) “It’s controlled by an elaborate financial market system as well as by the four major Anglo-American oil companies. As much as 60% of today’s crude oil price is pure speculation driven by large trader banks and hedge funds. It has nothing to do with the convenient myths of Peak Oil. It has to do with control of oil and its price.”

EnronA key component here is the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 which was written by Senator Phil Gramm (R-TX) and Enron lobbyists.  Included in this legislation was a huge loophole that deregulated over-the-counter energy trades. This was what permitted Enron to make huge profits, as prices skyrocketed.  Remember the rolling blackouts in the west?  Then the bubble burst.  This same loophole is being used to drive up the price of crude oil.

“… [T]here is substantial evidence that the large amount of speculation in the current market has significantly increased prices. Several analysts have estimated that speculative purchases of oil futures have added as much as $20-$25 per barrel to the current price of crude oil, thereby pushing up the price of oil from $50 to approximately $70 per barrel,” at reported in ‘The role of Market Speculation’ from a June, 2006 U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations report.

No longer is the price of oil being controlled by OPEC.  As a result of the oil futures trading, that control has shifted to Wall Street.

Thanks to the Enron loophole, it is now possible to trade these energy commodities without oversight since reporting of the large trades of energy commodities is not required thus making it impossible to ‘detect and deter price manipulation.’

“A glance at the price for Brent and WTI futures prices since January 2006 indicates the remarkable correlation between skyrocketing oil prices and the unregulated trade in ICE oil futures in US markets,” Engdahl concluded.

Another factor in the increase is the devaluization of the US dollar compared to the Euro and other world currency.  As the dollar weakens, the price per barrel must adjust to world market prices thereby driving the price of gas higher.

So politicians and the media have been playing ‘Three-card Monte’ with us as they take our attention from the real root of the high gas prices and have us focus on the irrelevant offshore drilling.  The only way out of this mess, is to close the so-called Enron loophole and seek out alternative fuel and energy sources.

And don’t look now, but Exxon Mobil, Shell, Total, BP and Chevron are completing a deal that will return these oil giants to Iraq.

A humorous break from the political grind

This political season has been so long – with the primaries starting in January and the campaign’s starting 8 months before that. The general election cycle is just kicking off concluding in just over 4 months.

Sometimes it is necessary just to take a break from it all . . . and laugh.

We will be briefly entertained by the singing Presidents of the United States – if you can call this singing.

Anyway, here it is, your Moment of Zen (thank you Jon Stewart)

Brian Williams: His Weak Attempt on MTP

Brian Williams On Sunday’s Meet the Press, Brian Williams poorly hosted the show that had for years been superbly moderated by the late Tim Russert.

His guests, Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) were originally scheduled to appear a week earlier.  They tackled a few issues:  public campaign financing, NAFTA and big oil.

It was clear, early and often, that Williams’s objective was to put Senator Biden on the defensive about Barack Obama while giving a mostly free pass to Senator Graham on John McCain.

While covering campaign financing, Williams was a one-trick pony solely repeating the mantra that Obama said he would take public funds and now he isn’t.  At the same time, he skipped altogether the DNC lawsuit involving campaign financing issues against the John McCain campaign.  He also ignored that McCain will still be taking corporate lobbyist and PAC dollars while Obama would not.  He never discussed how McCain chose not to dissuade the 527 Groups or that by taking public financing, it would limit the total amount of money Obama would be able to accept from the small donors which would keep control with corporate interests, something Obama had vowed to extinguish.

SEN. BARACK OBAMA (D-IL):  We’ve made the decision not to participate in the public financing system for the general election.

SEN. JOHN McCAIN (R-AZ):  He has completely reversed himself and gone back not on his word to me, but the commitment that he made to the American people.

Williams extracted 1 sentence from an entire Obama speech explaining the reason why he was foregoing public financing.  That was followed by a unchallenged slam by McCain.  Next he cuts to one question from the Democratic debate in Cleveland, Ohio this past February.

TIM RUSSERT:  Well, let me ask you about motivating, inspiring, keeping your word.  Nothing more important.  Last year you said if you were the nominee you would opt for public financing in the general election of the campaign, try to get some of the money out.  You checked “yes” on a questionnaire.

SEN. OBAMA:  (Unintelligible)…politics at worst.

RUSSERT:  So you may opt out of public financing?  You may break your word?

SEN. OBAMA:  What I–what I’ve said is at the point where I’m the nominee, at the point where it’s appropriate, I will sit down with John McCain and make sure that we have a system that works for everybody.

Now that Williams had painted the picture for the viewers, Biden was thrust on the defensive while Graham played the role of pile-on.

Joe Biden on Meet the PressSEN. BIDEN:  …  The irony is, although he has changed his position–I’m not going to color that, he’s changed his position–the fact of the matter is he has 1,400,000 contributors, the vast majority of whom contribute less than a hundred bucks a piece. ….  Not one of them could say, “If I don’t–if you don’t change your mind, I’m withdrawing my support.” … [I]n terms of influence and big money, there is no influence or big money in his campaign.

Of course, Biden is trying to explain that by accepting the 1.4 million contributors and turning away the PACs and corporate lobbyist dollars, Obama is truly using a public financing system and isn’t beholden to any corporate interest or big money group.  McCain, who will still be accepting the PAC and corporate interest dollars will have some favors to repay.

BRIAN WILLIAMS:  But where does this leave public financing?

Public financing needs to be fixed by someone that actually cares about true public financing.  It also needs to be addressed by someone who has no political favors to repay.  Political favors that allows the Pharmaceutical Bill to be written by the pharmaceutical companies, the Bankruptcy Bill to be written by the credit card companies and the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 which contains the so-called Enron Loophole that was written by Senator Phil Gramm and Enron Lobbyists.

WILLIAMS:  Senator Graham, does this mean it’s (public financing) broken forever?

SEN. LINDSEY GRAHAM (R-SC):  It means his word’s broken forever on this issue.

Williams let Graham stay off the point and let him take the digs at Obama.

SEN. BIDEN:  Obama did say, “I’m going to be a game changer.” He has been a game changer.  Big money is not influencing his campaign.  Major interests are not influencing his campaign.

Biden is working to stay on message, which is critical to understand.  This is not a clear-cut issue.  The reasoning behind the Obama campaign’s decision is sound but the Republicans and the media will have none of it.

WILLIAMS:  But had that been the McCain campaign, wouldn’t it have been just as easy for them to, discovering this potential gold mine on the Internet, have made this same decision?

Of course McCain could have gone this route too.  Except, McCain could never generate the kind of money Obama has.  Why didn’t Williams ask Graham why McCain wouldn’t forego the PAC and corporate lobbyist money?  Why didn’t Williams ask Graham why McCain wouldn’t harshly attack the right wing 527 Groups, as Obama had done?  MoveOn.org has ceased their 527 Groups to honor Obama’s request of a clean campaign.  Why hasn’t McCain done the same thing?  Why didn’t Brian Williams ask those questions?

Lindsey Graham on Meet the PressSEN. GRAHAM:  Here’s the question.  “If you are nominated for president in 2008 and your major opponents agree to forego private funding in the general election campaign, will you participate in the presidential public financing system?” Obama:  “Yes, I have been a longtime advocate for public financing of campaigns combined with free television and radio time as a way to reduce the influence of moneyed special interests.” November 2007.

Okay, Senator Graham.  Why didn’t McCain answer that questionnaire?  Why is the DNC suing the McCain campaign for spending more than the limit that public financing allows?    Williams didn’t touch those.  Instead, Williams followed with this:

WILLIAMS:  The words of Senator Hillary Clinton, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, February 17th, 2008.  “My understanding is that Senator Obama said he would take public financing and that now he’s saying he won’t.  So I think it raises some serious questions about what it is he stands for.” Her words, Senator Biden.

Williams refused to keep this debate balanced or accurate.  It required Biden to repeat the same point for the fourth time in this debate.  Williams’ moderation of this debate kept going around in circles.  So rather than move on or balance the debate and question Graham about some of McCain’s campaign questions, Williams asks Biden the following:

MR. WILLIAMS:  But you heard the line of argument, Senator Biden, from Senator Graham this morning.  This has been something we’re seeing, especially in print this past week.  David Brooks, op-ed page New York Times:  “Barack Obama is the most split-personality politician in the country today.  On the one hand, there is Dr. Barack, the high-minded, Niebuhr-quoting speechifier who spent this past winter thrilling the Scarlett Johansson set and feeling the fierce urgency of now.  But then on the other side, there’s Fast Eddie Obama, the promise-breaking, tough-minded Chicago pol who’d throw you under the truck for votes.” It goes on.  Associated Press:  “Barack Obama chose winning over his word.  …  He tarnished his carefully honed image as a different kind of politician–one who means what he says and says what he means–while undercutting his call for `a new kind of politics.’ …  So much for being a straight shooter.”

Sens. Biden and GrahamNice hatchet job, Brian.  Taking a known right wing pundit and quoting him to make a point?  Pretty lame, sir.  Biden points out that the public financing system the way it is designed is broken and favors corporate donantions and he discusses one solution to help fix it.

SEN. BIDEN:  … [H]e would keep major influences out of his campaign and out of his presidency.  It didn’t fit within the matrix of public financing as we talked about it, but that was the purpose of public financing.  That’s the rationale.  Put it another way.  If everyone in America agreed that 80 percent of their contributions for House, Senate, and president could only come from people making contributions of $100 or less, we’d have a pretty darn good system.  The influence of money would be gone.

WILLIAMS:  Senator Graham, you heard that it turns out he’s keeping his promise.

Seriously, Brian.  What the hell was that?  So to follow up later in the broadcast, Williams had Andrea Mitchell address this once more.

WILLIAMS:  Is campaign finance  … one of those–the trickle down issues … that people get their arms around and care about?

Andrea MitchellANDREA MITCHELL:  Well, in fact, the campaign is hoping that it is not, that it is the kind of inside-the-Beltway issue that doesn’t resonate.  … [W]hat Lindsey Graham did was to try to say, “You see, he’s not the real deal.  He’s not authentic.  You don’t really know this guy. He doesn’t represent reform, new politics.  He breaks his word.  You can’t trust him.” That’s what they will claim, and they’ll use something like his going back on his word on this and try to make it into a big deal.  You heard John McCain say, his immediate response when he was out in Iowa, “This is a big deal.  This is a big deal.”

MR. WILLIAMS:  Mm-hmm.

MS. MITCHELL:  He repeated it twice.

Is this New York, New York.  The issue so great McCain repeated it twice?  Andrea.  Andrea. I’m so ashamed of your comments that I said your name twice.

We still have a long way to go in this campaign.  If the media is going to do this type of hatchet job on the truth, then we are looking at a long 4½ months.  I guess I shouldn’t be all that surprised by Brian Williams, especially after seeing his moderation of the primary debates.  What also was clear was Williams didn’t impress the bosses at NBC either since starting next week Tom Brokaw will take over as host of Meet The Press through this election cycle.

Campaign Finance Reform:

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campaign_finance_reform

McCain bribes America for votes?

That’s how I see it.  Presumptive Republican nominee John McCain came up with what on the surface, at least, appears to be a wonderful way to get the creative juices flowing for many Americans.  The offer of huge, beyond your wildest dreams, riches.

Host of The $300 Million Giveaway$300 million from the federal government for developing a battery that exceeds what we currently have.  One that could power our vehicles and reduce our dependency on foreign oil.

The $300 million price tag would be “a small price to pay for helping to break the back of our oil dependency,” McCain said.

McCain also is offering automakers a $5,000 tax credit for every zero-carbon emissions car developed and sold.

On paper, this sounds great.  I actually love the idea.  It is a great way to inspire people and possible make progress.  However, this ‘vote for me, invent a battery and I’ll give you 300 million dollars’ does come with a couple of caveats.

First of all, allocation of funds like this must come from the Congress, not a person running for the presidency, so McCain really cannot simply make a promise to give someone $300 million or give companies tax credits.

Second – doesn’t it appear that he is buying our votes?  When you first read it, you think, ‘hey maybe I can invent a better battery.’   After reality sets in, you think, ‘hey if he is willing to cough up funds like this for a battery, maybe he’d be willing to give me money for something I can invent.’

This Clean Car Challenge to the automakers and the $300 million challenge to Americans comes off more like he wants to run a game show rather than the country.

George Carlin – Thank you for the laughter

For me,  George Carlin was a hero of sorts.  I know I don’t stand alone in that sentiment.

He stood up to authority by questioning it and making fun of it.

He constantly challenged the norm.

He pulled me out of despair when on August 2, 1979 my boyhood idol, Thurman Munson, was killed in an airplane crash.

As a boy, I didn’t think I would ever get pulled out of my state of mourning, especially not by that evening’s guest host of The Tonight Show.

He’s made me laugh ever since.  I’ve seen him in concert numerous times over the years, most recently for the last show of the millennium – December 31, 2000 - when he concluded with “Happy Real Millennium.”

Thank you for giving me 3 decades of laugher.  You will be sorely missed.

I leave you with the routine that helped me 29 years ago – Baseball and Football

John Cusack’s Bush – McBush challenge

As you can see in this John Cusack ad funded by MoveOn.org, it is not at all difficult to see that voting for John McCain will in fact be the equivalent of voting for a third term for George W. Bush.

Just an aside: Whenever you see the 2 together, look to see if Bush waves to someone, a moment later McBush will wave to the same person. If Bush points, McBush points. It’s so consistent, it’s almost eerie.

Now look at their record . . .

Fourth Amendment 1791 – 2008

Article IV states:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

The Fourth Amendment was ratified as part of the Bill of Rights on December 15, 1791

Today the House passed a ‘compromise’ to the FISA bill which continues the governments’ warrantless surveillance program and essentially gives the Telecom companies immunity. This is a huge victory for President Bush. The vote passed 293 – 129 and is expected to easily pass the Senate.

Dennis Kucinich brilliantly states in 1 minute from the House floor exactly why this bill is harmful and how it invalidates the Fourth Amendment.

Flip-flopper McCain calls Obama a Flip-flopper

In one of the funniest quotes of the day, John McCain said:

“Sen. Obama’s reversal on public financing is one of a number of reversals … that he has taken,”

Is he for real?  McReversal has changed his position on so many different issues, including public financing.  A day doesn’t seem to go by where McCain doesn’t change his position on a key issue.

Barack Obama and John McCainThe problem here is that John McCain used the option of public financing to obtain campaign loans earlier in the primary season when his campaign was struggling.  Public financing, paid for by taxpayers, apparently aided McCain in getting on the ballot in some states where costs can be quite prohibitive.  After his campaign picked up, he started getting more contributions which made the need for public financing unnecessary.  The question now is once you are using public campaign financing for an election, can you withdraw?  This is a matter for the FEC to decide.  Obviously, the McCain campaign believes that you can while the Obama campaign and DNC chairman Howard Dean vehemently disagree.

Barack Obama is a fundraising machine.  Thanks to his innovative grass-roots movement, he has been able to receive contributions from an amazing number of Americans – about 1.5 million people contributed an average of under $100.  As the General Election grows closer that number is sure to increase immeasurably.

If Obama were to go with public financing for this election, he would significantly reduce the amount of money his campaign could receive, and McCain knows this and was counting on this.  The rules state that candidates using public financing cannot raise or spend money contributed directly by individuals.  This would essentially end the grassroots on-line movement that has allowed Obama to bring in amazing dollars.  McCain, on the other hand, with public financing, would still be able to raise money from lobbyists and political action committees (PACs).

The candidate Obama significantly out-fundraises the candidate McCain.  In April, Obama raised over $30 million to McCain’s $18 million.  On the flip side, the GOP out-raises the DNC and even more importantly the pro-Republican 527 Groups have a much larger cash flow than the pro-Democratic Party 527’s.  In order for Obama to combat this, he MUST stay out of public financing for this election.

Public financing would be great if party-raised contributions would not be included in the candidates’ campaigns, all campaign ads were free, candidates received equal time in the media, and 527 Groups were completely abolished.

And Mr. McCain knows these facts.   Obama filled out a questionnaire a while ago when they asked if he would use public financing if he were the nominee, to which he replied ‘yes’.  It was not a pledge or a campaign promise.  McCain and the other candidates refused to even fill out this questionnaire.

Here is Barack Obama’s statement on his decision to forego public financing.

Barack Obama is our greatest fear . . . and Worse!

Barack and his momObama is a secret Muslim. And since seeing pictures of his family, not so secret either. We saw his mom, dad, step-dad, uncle, paternal step-grandmother, and his mom’s parents. Those were the ‘white folks’ that raised him. What’s up with that? How dare Obama have a family? And one with ties outside this country. After all, real American families have been in America forever.

Obama is an angry, American hating Christian. And we have the Reverend Wright to thank for that, too. Wow. The guy is a Muslim AND a Christian. I also heard that he’s an atheist. Can’t he make up his mind?

Obama went to school at a Madrassa? WTF? What does Madrassa mean anyway? (It means school. Obama went to school, how elitist!)

Obama has ties to terrorists William Ayers, Rashid Khalidi and everyone else, they say. That thing with Ayers took place in the late 60’s right? Obama was born in 1961? So he definitely could have been involved in that. He was about 8. I also hear that he hates Israel and the Jews. We can’t have that now, can we?

Does Bush know where his heart is?He will not put his hand over his heart during the Pledge of Allegiance, even though the picture we see was taken during the Star Spangled Banner – not the Pledge. Oh yeah. Only ballplayers put their caps over their heart during the SSB.

Obama won’t wear an American flag lapel pin – which is exactly what an American-hater would do to try to trick us into thinking he was patriotic. I’ve also seen McCain and many other Right Field Republicans not wearing the pin. Hell, I don’t ever wear one. Don’t want to put a hole in my shirt.

Is that the Bible Cheney and Obama are holding?Obama did get sworn into the United States Senate with his hand on the Koran – no wait. That was the Bible. And that was Minnesota Congressman Keith Ellison who was sworn in with his hand on the Koran. And that Koran used to belong to President Thomas Jefferson, the guy that wrote our Declaration of Independence.

Barack and Michelle’s fist bump is something all terrorists do just before they do something scary. That’s why I always get frightened when I see the kids doing that awful thing. Probably the same thing my parents thought when they saw me slap my friends ‘five’. Or the parents of the first people to shake hands.

Also, what is it with his name? Barack? Sounds like Iraq. And the last name of that Israeli dude, Prime Minister Ehud Barak. His middle name is Hussein for heaven’s sake. It took a lot of work to get rid of that guy in Barack . . . I mean Iraq. And that last name? Obama? I’ve even seen liberals make the mistake and call him Osama. Ever type Obama in Microsoft Word? You get that squiggly line under it. When you do that right-click thing, it wants to change it to Osama? Even my computer knows that Obama ain’t no good.

And if it’s on the internet it’s got to be true. No one lies on the internet. I even get this stuff in my email, along with pharmacy deals, member enlargers and VIAGRA!!!!! I need my Viagra.Hannity discussing Obama\'s middle name

And I saw that Hannity guy talking about it and Rush too. They wouldn’t steer me wrong, now would they?

They call him Mister Flip-Flop

They call him McFlipperRemember the heat John Kerry took because he once said that he voted for the war before he voted against the war?  The media and the Republicans had a field day with him.  Kerry is still known as a flip-flopper as a result of that.

Four short years later we are seeing McCain flip-flop on every single issue – except the war.  I can’t keep up with them all.

He was against the Everglades restoration before he was for it.

He was against the MLK holiday before he was for it.

He was against Katrina investigations before he was for it.

He was weak on the economy before he was – well, weak on the economy.

He was for 100 years in Iraq before he was against it.

He was against the Religious right’s endorsement before he was for it before he was against it again.

Sadly, the list continues on and on.

The latest flip-flop occurred yesterday when McCain decided he was for oil drilling off the coast of Florida after he was against it.  It appears this change is motivated because Bush is going to put pressure on Congress in order to allow drilling off of Florida.  Darth Cheney

We should have seen this coming because Darth Cheney recently lied that China was drilling offshore only 60 miles from the Florida coast.  The right wing parrots moved the oil rig closer to 45 miles from Florida.  Except that it isn’t true.  How do we know this?  Mel Martinez, Republican Senator from Florida said so.  Yes, Mel Martinez.  Yes, a Republican.

“Despite what is cited as fact here in the Senate and in other places, China is not drilling off the coast of Cuba.”

Republican Senator Martinez calls out lie by CheneyThank you, Senator Martinez.  (Just an aside:  It is interesting how Martinez is considering a change in position to FOR offshore drilling for the same reason that McFlipFlop is.)

(Just another brief aside:  Florida Governor Charlie Crist – a Republican – and  big environmentalist, who has been steadfast is his fight against drilling off of Florida, yesterday changed his position too.  You think this has anything to do with a hopeful VP spot for Mr. Crist?)

What will cost McCain this election, though, is that he’s flip-flopping to the right and towards the unpopular president.  Usually, the Democratic candidate already has the more progressive voters sewn up so they move to the right to get the moderates, independents and some Republicans.  The Republican candidate usually pulls the other way since they usually have the right in the bag.

This year, the right is unconvinced about McCain so he has pulled to the right.  In fact, he is going so far right that it should cost him the moderates, independents and even some of his less conservative Republicans.  The longer McCain stays out in Right Field, the harder it will be for him to pull back and recapture the middle.  In fact, he also risks losing that moderate Republican label he has enjoyed for so long.  The one that had him poll strongly against every Democratic candidate.

McCainWhat’s worse for McCain is that it’s not like these far right voters would vote for Obama.  Some may stay home.  Most would have voted for McCain just to beat Obama.  By pandering to them, McCain is turning away a larger bloc of voters and they won’t stay home.  They’d, instead, vote for Obama.

And if the Quinnipiac poll from June 9th – 16th is any indication, Obama is now ahead of McCain in Florida 47% – 43%.  As recently as last month, McCain enjoyed a 10 point lead over Obama in Florida.

Before the election slips away from him, McCain better flip back toward the center.

Wake up HillBots!

Hillary, What do we do?Any Hillary Clinton supporter who votes for John McBush is a moron. I am sick and tired of reading about these HillBots who refuse to vote for Barack Obama. It’s time for them to start looking at the issues.

Compare every Clinton issue with that of McBush, please. Every one of them. Find one where they are aligned? Their vote on the Iraq War? The vote on Iran? Okay, I’ll give you those.

How about a domestic policy issue? Not one of those, unless, of course, you count that ridiculous summer gas tax holiday.

So unless you Hillbots supported Clinton for her vote on Iraq and Iran, then I can see you swinging to McBush. Otherwise, wake up.

Johrge McBushSince the Bush presidency began in 2001, John McBush has voted 85% with the policies of the Bush administration. In 2007, that number was 95%. In 2008, 100%. Look at how McBush flip-flopped on off-shore drilling yesterday to get behind the president. McBush WILL BE the third term for George W. Bush. The W stands for WTF.

McBush is against everything that we, as Americans expect from our elected leaders. He was sharing a cake with Bush when New Orleans was underwater. He is against any type of universal health care. He is against improving the education of our children. He was against Jim Webb’s G.I. Bill which assisted our troops with education once they returned home because it was ‘too generous’. I can keep going, but you can see where this is heading.

The well-respected Justice Antonin ScaliaBush has selected 2 Supreme Court Justices. John Roberts and Samuel Alito. Both of these men dragged the court over to the right on each issue as they fell in behind Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia.

The next president will likely replace 2 or 3 justices. Justice Stevens is 88. Four others are over 70. There is a decent chance that some of these 5 justices would like to retire.

If you believe that the Supreme Court should have justices that are actually for justice, then you must vote for Barack Obama.

We all agree that the media is messed up and we know that John McBush will not change it if he wins the election. If you believe that News must be News and not bloviated opinion, then you must vote for Barack Obama.

Both Obama and Clinton support the woman’s right to choose. We know where McBush stands on this issue. If you believe that women have control over the decisions that affect their bodies, then you must vote for Barack Obama.

No Child Left Behind is a complete and utter debacle leaving our poorer children and those with learning disabilities behind. If you believe that your children really must not be left behind, then you must vote for Barack Obama.

Thanks to the Grand OLD Party (the ‘old’ stands for old ideas, old politics and old nominee) millions have no healthcare coverage. Others have insufficient coverage or no coverage for pre-existing conditions. If you believe that you should never have to worry about the health insurance for you or your family, then you must vote for Barack Obama.

McBush has said that 100 more years in Iraq would be fine with him. If you believe that our children who are fighting and risking their lives in Iraq should be home with their families, you must vote for Barack Obama.

This economy is horrible and getting worse daily. Gas prices keep climbing. Every service that uses gasoline must raise their prices in order to stay afloat. John McBush said during one of the Republican primary debates that he was not that strong on the economy. His plan proves this point. If you believe that you shouldn’t have to decide whether to heat your home, feed you family or buy medicine, you must vote for Barack Obama.

Are you Hillbots really that bitter that you would totally vote against your best interests and that of your family because you believe that the media treated your candidate unfairly – that Rahm Emanuel and the DLC treated your candidate unfairly – that some of the so-called super delegates treated your candidate unfairly???

Barack Obama - Change We Can Believe InObama did none of those things. He spoke about Clinton with respect and completely acted presidential. He is our party’s candidate.

Hillbots – Get over it already! Obama won the election based on the RULES! It is time for us to unite AND VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA.

Hillbots are as Dumb as Bushies

HillBots = Bushies?

Okay, Hillbots. It’s time to come back to the party. You’ve had your time to sulk. We need the full 4½ months leading up to the election to beat McBush. Your candidate didn’t win, just like many of other voters and we’ve gotten over it. Stop being such a big bunch of babies.

Note: This does not pertain to the Hillary Clinton supporters that have joined with the supporters of John Edwards, Chris Dodd, Joe Biden, Dennis Kucinich, Bill Richardson, Mike Gravel and the Al Gore hopefuls behind our party’s 2008 nominee, Barack Obama. It does, however, pertain to the Hillary supporters who vow to either not vote in the election in November or vote (dare I say it) for John McBush.

Definition: Hill·Bot (hĭl’bŏt’) -noun

1. A supporter of Hillary Clinton’s 2008 Democratic presidential candidacy who refused to admit that her candidate did not win the nomination.

2. A Clinton supporter who thought that the media was out to get her even though she was the overwhelming favorite to win the nomination with the polls and the media. That is, until the people started voting.

3. A Clinton supporter who thinks she ran a clean and friendly campaign and her opponents were just plain nasty and dirty.

4. A Clinton supporter who will vote against their best interests because they are trying to make a point. A point that makes no logical sense. A point that could seriously harm this country. A point that doesn’t exist. A point that no one cares about.

5. A Clinton supporter who refuses to let go.

HillBotThe Hillbots claim that their candidate has cornered the market on candidates getting mistreated by the media pundits. Just this election alone – on the Democratic Party side – this can easily be disproved.

Mike Gravel is thought of as the crazy old guy from the 2008 Democratic primaries. The media essentially ignored him and continued to incorrectly state that he had dropped out of the race. In fact, he still has yet to drop out, changing his party affiliation to Libertarian. He was mostly ignored in the debates eventually getting removed altogether.

Dennis Kucinich was the candidate that had the best working-class message. He has repeatedly called for the impeachment of both Bush and Cheney. Kucinich, too, received little to no media coverage. During the debates he was relegated to the corner of the dais and was asked few questions. In one debate, the late Tim Russert asked Kucinich the following: “Shirley MacLaine writes in her new book that you sighted a UFO over her home in Washington state,” Russert said, “that you found the encounter extremely moving, that it was a triangular craft, silent and hovering, that you “felt a connection to your heart and heard directions in your mind.” Clearly, Russert’s intention was to make Kucinich look insane to the voters. Even though a judge ordered Kucinich be included in a following debate, MSNBC refused to allow him on the stage for the Nevada debate.

John Edwards wasn’t able to raise the kind of money that Obama and Clinton generated. Though he was still included in the debates, he received little press coverage unless you were talking about his haircuts. Unquestionably, Edwards was the most popular Democrat in the blogosphere. Every talk radio program that polled its listeners determined that Edwards was overwhelmingly the favorite candidate. He spoke of staying in the race until the general election. Even though I knew I was being disenfranchised, I voted for Edwards in the Florida primary in January solely because I have never been able to vote for my favorite candidate in the primaries since Florida has never mattered in all the years I have voted. I got home from voting and contributed money to the Edwards campaign. He dropped out of the race the next day. I was angry and felt cheated. Briefly, I toyed with the idea of staying home or voting for another candidate in the general election. Then I weighed my options and got behind Obama.

Did Hillary Clinton get mistreated by the media? To some degree, yes. But so had Obama. If I have to hear one more thing about the Reverend Wright or that bitter comment or Michelle not being proud or the flag pin or pledge of allegiance, I will be sick.

Is there misogyny in the media? Absolutely. Chris Matthews was disgusting. There were many other incidents too. This must change. The media will not fix itself and it certainly will not fix itself under a McBush presidency.

HillBots on the moveHillbots. It is your time. Your candidate and shepherd has gotten behind the winner of the primary. You need to come to that same conclusion. The alternative is too dangerous.

Coming next: Why the Hillbots need to get over it and vote for Obama.
